HTML5

"The internet, and the use of the internet, has changed a lot since 1999, when HTML 4.01 became a standard.

Today, several elements in HTML 4.01 are obsolete, never used, or not used the way they were intended. All those elements are removed or re-written in HTML5.

To better handle today's internet needs, HTML5 has also included new elements for drawing graphics, displaying media content, for better page structure and better form handling, and several new APIs, such as drag and drop, get the geographical position of a user, store local data, and more." - W3Schools.

CSS3

"CSS defines how HTML elements are to be displayed. Styles are normally saved in external .css files. External style sheets enable you to change the appearance and layout of all the pages in a site, just by editing one single file!" - W3Schools.

With CSS3 web development is faster and easier than ever. You can now animate elements of the page without using a programming language like JavaScript, add rounded corners and shadows to div elements and text, and much more. What this means for the site visitor is faster page loading times and extended features to enhance user experience.

JavaScript

"JavaScript is the most popular programming language in the world. It is the language for HTML, for the Web, for computers, servers, laptops, tablets, smart phones, and more. With JavaScript you can manipulate the DOM, change HTML contents, in real time without having to reload the page." - W3Schools.

JavaScript is being used all over the web. This site emplements JavaScript on the transitions between these tabbed sections, the small black info panes seen under the navigation bar when hovered with the cursor on a pc, and on the slider section at the top of the home page.

PHP

"PHP is a server scripting language, and is a powerful tool for making dynamic and interactive Web pages quickly. PHP is a widely-used, free, and efficient alternative to competitors such as Microsoft's ASP." - W3Schools.

PHP enables you to do many things in web development. You can save elements of the page you wish to reuse, such as navigation bars and footer text, in a speperate file and call upon them with a PHP function. This means changing one file will update the entire site. This also speeds up page loading times because the browser caches, or saves, the seperate php files on the first load.

MySQL

"MySQL is the world's most popular open source database system. Many of the world's largest and fastest-growing organizations including Facebook, Google, Adobe, Alcatel Lucent and Zappos rely on MySQL to save time and money powering their high-volume Web sites, business-critical systems and packaged software." - MySQL.
